elsummers are named after the village of Welsum in Holland. They are known for their large, terracotta-brown eggs. They have a wonderful disposition. Probably, my favorite poultry on the farm. Our breeding program emphasizes egg color and size and lay rate in addition to the APA standard for the breed.
These beautiful birds are also well known from their role in American advertising. The Kellogg's Corn Flake Rooster, "Cornelius" is a Welsummer.
Those interested in the breed, should join the Welsummer Yahoo group.
If you would like to purchase Welsummer day old chicks or hatching eggs, see the For Sale page.
